I'm having a problem with my 66 427/390 smoking after running about five minutes. It starts out very gradually then after about 10-15 minutes there is a noticable discharge. The smoke is a light blue and it only happens on the right bank.
I've pulled the valve cover on the right bank to replace valve seals. I assumed the majority of the problem was due to #8 exhaust as it has the most oil near or around it.
What I found amazed me. All of the springs except #8 exhaust had a single spring with a spiral (flat stock) spring on the inside and all had seals on them. Number 8 exhaust had two complete springs and no seal.
What should I do? I assume I should get the correct spring set (flatstock on inside) and put a seal on. If I just add a seal I could be causing undesirable cam wear because of to stiff of springs.
Is it possible someone did not install a seal because it interferes with the innner spring?
Any opinions or assistance is appreciated.
