i found a 427 block for sale. it is dated march 69', but the guy says it is a ce block the dealer installed in his 67' as a replacment. this swap was done i assume in 69'. anyway i am thinking about putting it on a 69 chassis i am building. what does that "ce" code mean? is it a actual corvette block? would this block be the same as my other correct 69' block? is 500 to much to pay for a unmachined(stock bore & deck) block in perfect condition, including the stock 2 bolt caps?

Re: 1969 ce 427/390 block
Scott-----
The stamping "CE" denotes "Chevrolet Engine". These were stampings applied to warranty replacement or over-the-counter purchased engine assemblies once-upon-a-time.
The price of $500 would be a VERY good one if the block is, at least, of the correct casting number and date for your car. If it's not or if you don't care about "numbers", you might be able to obtain a bare block for a little less, but not much less.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1969 ce 427/390 block
the casting numbers are right on for a 69' 427/390 hp. and the date falls right where i want it. even know this is for a car that i am assembleing for a everyday driver, i still would like to have the piece of mind that it was put together the right way. instead of one of those cars with alittle from one year, and something from another. i was going with a small block for this car. but i have a whole set up from my other 69, including the correct crank, pistons, intake, and oil pan, ect.... so it might over heat on my way to work once in awhile, oh well. it could be worse. i could be stuck driving a mustang!! thanks for your help joe.- Top
