    '61-'62 large tank gas cap?

Ok, so a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. When I took over the '62-340 I take care of, the 'wrong' gas cap was on it. I just got the '61-'62 Restorer CD (a great product, for those considering it) and I came across an article on gas caps from the Summer '79 issue. In it there is a picture (Figure 7) of a 'big tank' cap, P/N 3784892 or 3798770. Well, it looks a lot like the cap I have, though there's no part number on my cap. My cap has a very crusty cork-like gasket on the inside and has a fine knulring pattern on the perimeter. The car is NOT a big tank car, so I've no idea why it would have this cap. Since there is no P/N, I will assume this cap is NOT a big tank cap and is some generic Napa part, but I'd appreciate it if someone could pass judgement on these pics. Thanks!

A few years ago I bought a rough 57 and it had the same looking cap on it. I think they are aftermarket.

Rob, Looks about right to me...

If it fits your fill pipe, then based on what I see in the picture, its probably a "big tank" cap. That also means it was used on other Chevrolet models like some pickup trucks of the era. Dennis

I figured as much, thanks for the input, gentlemen. Hey, perhaps it's worth as much as $2 to someone at Pomona, right?
