Thomas I had allways thought the 12AT72FR was a simple date code when the material was made December 72. The date stamp was when it was made into a bag Sept 72. Are you sure they are original? Lyle

      Lyle ,
No I not sure if there original they came with the 72 when I purchased it.
I did not think they were restamped because the 72 is a March car so they
would not be correct anyway. Thanks for the info. Thomas

        Re: C3 T-TOP BAG QUESTION

Thomas, you may want to check the thread below from the archives...Tom Freeman has almost identical bag stamping for his early 73. Reba Whittington, an experienced judge, also covers different methods of date stamping. It appears the discrepancy between the 12AT72FR and the single stamped date remains unexplained.

If I had to guess, I would say that for bags stamped in this format, 12AT72FR is the date of manufacture of the bag material, and the ink stamped date is the bag "build date". In Tom's case, they are the same or October 72.

If my guess is correct, then the September 72 ink stamp on December 72 material would be problematical. Makes one wonder if a past owner of the bags did some creative "restoration" and unloaded them after he was caught in judging. In any event, the bags appear to be for an early 73 Corvette and are incorrect for your car as you said.
