    tachometer

Can anyone tell the correct procedure for removing the tach from my 1960, also is there a rebuild kit or someone who rebuilds tachs? I also need a new needle for the tach. David Newman dnewman6 @cinci.rr.com

To remove the tach, you will need to remove the instrument cluster. The tach goes in before the speedometer, so the speedo has to come out first. There are five 3/8" head bolts holding the cluster in. Disconnect the battery and remove the bolts. disconnect the wiring and the oil pressure line. Tach and speedo cables unscrew and you have it loose. Good picture in the ST12 showing the location of the wiring, so everything is pretty easy to put back together. You might want to replace all the light bulbs while you're there.

All the usual vendors sell tach needles.

For rebuilding yout tach and other gauges, www.clockwks.com or Corvette's of Maryland, both do very good work.
