Re: Job# markings?
This number was also written on the rear bulkhead behind the gas tank, the firewall, right side footwell area (usuallyblacked out and not visible), and on the "Z" brace, behind the speedo. I believe that this is more accurately referred to as a "body number", and was cycled from 1 thru 500, and then back to 1, etc, etc.
The same system was used in St. Louis and Ionia, with some variations in additional placements, and certain "body option codes".

Re: Job# markings?-all the same????
Michael,
With the possible exception of the number on the brace behind the instrument cluster, all the numbers are the same. This is the job number that is used throughout the St. Louis assembly plant on the body, chassis and engine to insure that all these components are a match when installed. The workers on the line had to have a way to make sure they were installing the correct body on a chassis so the last thing that they did before dropping the body in place was to double check these numbers and make sure they match. I think the number hand written on the brace behind the IP is a number that was applied by the A. O. Smith body assy plant, an outside source, if the body happened to come from there instead of in house at St. Louis.- Top

Re: Job# markings?
My '67 job number on the passenger firewall is #294, see below. There is also an abbreviated "94" on the top of the cowl up by the windshield under the front clip. You would never see this one unless you took off the front clip. PTAttached Files- Top
