    Cast iron thermostat housing

I have a cast iron thermostat housing #3827370.
    Can anyone identify usage?

    Thank you,

    Verle-----

The only application that I can find for GM #3827370 is 63-65 Corvette with SHP small block engines (i.e. engines with aluminum manifolds).

      Joe,
I have a 66 with the 3827369 thermostat housing and it has B3 after the number. Can you ID? The JG doesn't mention.
      Thanks as always,
      Dave

        Dave-----

The GM #3827369 is correct for your 1966 application if you have an L-79 (or, if you have an L-36 with K-19) . This housing was used for quite a few other applications, too. In some cases it also replaced, for SERVICE, some earlier housing part numbers.

The "B3" is some sort of casting code, perhaps a mold number. I don't know for sure, though.

          Thanks Joe...It's an L-79.

Saw a listing in one aftermarket parts book that gave several applications for the 3827370 thermostat cover and in addition to certain 56-65 Chevy engines it was also called our for 61-65 Pontiac use.

The 'B x' emboss is thought to indicate the specific cavity on a carousel mold the part was poured in for defect traceability (carousel 'B', mold cavity 'x')....

              Jack,

I'm not sure if Pontiac ever used the 370 housing (possible but not likely) but I do know that there was no such thing as a 3827370 housing until late 62 for release on the 63 Corvette. The part number didn't even exist before roughly August of 62 so the people that listed it as being correct for 56-62 are in error. It's possible that the 370 looks similar to something that was used in the earlier cars but it wasn't the exact same. I'm sure Joe will agree.

                Michael and Jack-----

According to GM information, the GM #3827370 outlet was not used for any Pontiac or other GM car line application. It was first used for the 1963 model year for SHP small block Corvette applications and last used for the 1965 model year for SHP small block Corvette applications. GM #3827370 was not supercessive to any earlier part number and it was discontinued from SERVICE without supercession in May, 1986.

Another Cast iron thermostat housing ?

I have an outlet that came on a 64 aluminum vette intake that is cast iron. The only numbers I can see on it are 109 on one side and an upside down 3 on the other.

Any idea what this is for?
