I have a new 4 speed shifter and linkage kit I bought from Volunteer Vette Products. The linkage kit contains the three levers which attach to the transmission however, these levers will not fit on the transmission studs because the round holes are too small. They are 5/16 inch diameter and the transmission studs are 1/2 inch. I'm trying to figure if Volunteer Vette just put the wrong levers in the kit package or if my transmission has been modified. Anyone know the correct diameter lever hole size for 64 to 68 Muncies.....I see from their catalog that 64 to 68 were the same, 69 to 73 were the same, 74 to 76 were the same and 77 to 81 were the same. Thanks for the help.

Re: 67 Transmission linkage question.
Rick
My 64 has the smaller diameter studs on the transmission and my 65 also had the smaller studs. This leads me to conclude, if 64 thru 67 are the same, that you have a replacement transmission from a latter year vehicle.- Top

Re: 67 Transmission linkage question.
Actually, the OEM studs for the later Muncies have a flat on the sides so that the 5/16 slot will fit over the 3/8 stud. Look for the flats and work with it. The studs with the flats are easily identified by the use of an SAE (fine) thread.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 67 Transmission linkage question.
It appears to be the round hole....not the slot....that fits over the stud. These levers will not fit on the studs. Do I need to as V.V. for levers from another year and if so, what years had the 1/2 inch holes. Thanks.- Top

Re: 67 Transmission linkage question.
Thanks for the responses....I have not understood or been very clear about the issue I have with my transmission and the levers. It seems the transmission is a 67 Muncie, however I am told the studs are "heavy duty"...using a 3/8 inch bolt....not the standard smaller 5/16 inch stud and bolt. The levers I now need are supposed to have a small hole inside the "slot" that fits on the stud to accomodate the larger 3/8 inch bolt. I am also told the 69 to 73 linkage uses the 3/8 inch bolt and the levers have that hole inside the slot. When I look in the V.V. catalog it appears the reverse rod and the reverse lever are different in the 69-73 kit than in the 64-68 kit. So, my question now is....can I simply use the 69-73 levers with the 64-68 rods or are the rods a different size and/or shape. Thanks for the help.- Top
