Help with manifold date?

I'm looking at a intake manifold for my 66 427/390. The engine build date is Dec 9 65.
The manifold is dated Sept 8 65. I'm unsure how far back you can go looking for components.
I've been told no longer than three months prior to the build date and no closer than 3 weeks.
Is this a good rule of thumb? I've also heard some manufacturing dates a year earlier are acceptable.
Can some one shed some light?

6 mos is allowed for judging, that covers most "normal" variations.

Horse poopie on both ends. It can be longer than three months and as close as days before (engine) build on some components. I would say a year may be possible, but atypical. If I were buying the car, I would be looking at everything real close after seeing a casting date a year before.

Your manifold won't cause you any problems in NCRS judging...I would consider it the original manifold.

Chuck I'm replacing the manifold thats on the car. Its really waked. It has a date of Sept 66, a long time after the engine and body of mine were produced.

If I'm allowed six months then that'll make my search much easier.
