1958 Corvette weatherstripping

I'm replacing the weatherstripping on the doors and read that there was a change in the way the stripping was installed in the 58'. Evidently there were screws and brackets used originally but soon thereafter it was found that cement alone was a better solution. Would you agree that cement is enough? What kind of cement should I use? At the moment, all I'm replacing is the area on the door posts and then the stripping in the trunk.

I just finished replacing all the weatherstripping on my '58. There are what I call clip inserts that hold a portion of the door strip. They push into a hole in the fiberglass. There is also a piece of formed metal that holds the strip at the top of the door at the rear. I used 3-M yellow adhesive. Make sure you take a look at how the trunk and decklip weatherstipping is installed. I did the trunk incorrectly and couldn't get it to close. Had to remove the strip, clean off the adhesive and start over. I can e-mail you a picture that shows the correct positioning of the trunk and decklid strips. If you have a '58 AIM, it shows the assembly.

You can send me an email with a pic. It would be appreciated. I'm retired from the auto body business, and I didn't remember if they had the plastic T clips that were inserted into the weatherstripping on the Vettes. I doing this project for a friend of mine.
