    C1 headlight mystery (62-340)

It doesn't take much to stump me with electrics, but this is weird. The headlight circuits all worked fine until about 2 months ago. Then, the passenger side outer lamp's low beam filament doesn't work in low beam mode, but is good when the highbeams are kicked in. I took the headlamps out tonight, and measured resistance across all permutations of the terminals. Appropriately, all show less than 1 ohm resistance. I cleaned the terminals with emory paper, and sprayed contact cleaner and Stabilant 22 into the connector, no change. I don't understand how this could be a ground issue if both filaments light up when the highbeam switch is kicked in. I jiggled the connector in the headlight switch, again to no avail. Does this make any sense to anyone? Thanks for any insights!

Ah, a Loose Wire. 'Nother question:.... (62-340)

So the 3-wire headlamp harness that snakes along under the front edge of the hood is actually 3 individual spade lugs that plug into the connector. The tan (low beam wire) is rattling loose in the connector. I'm afraid to pull the connector for fear of fatiguing and breaking the body clip that holds it. Do I crimp a bigger spade on the tan wire, or is there a way to re-expand the 'female' contacts in the connector? I hate to 'Bubba' the wires....

Rob, I had a problem last week where 3 of my lamps were very dim and the 4rth fine. I reached in front of the hood and found a ground wire had pulled out of one of the two 3 way connectors. Caused the headlamps to ground thru one of the hot wires.

These white connectors come out by just slightly pulling the forward edge of the body clamp down and pushing the white connector forward. Mine seemed to be pretty secure to the body.

Pushed the wire back in and everything is fine. I used a needle nose to grab the connectors and push in. Make sure the wire connector is past the edge of the white body. Not sure how to make the wire blade connection more secure since the female part is buried in a two way connector and hard to get to.

        Rob,

If you look closely inside the female connector, you will see a tab inside the plug that latches the connector into the plug. Use a tiny screwdriver to depress the tab and remove the connector. Then you can squeeze the female connector a little to tighten it back up. After it is tightened up, just slide the connector back into the plug, and it should latch in place again.

In the event the little tab is broken or you otherwise cannot use the existing connector, the connectors are availale from NAPA. If you can't find them, I probably have an unopened pack with a part number.
