    SS Brage Calipers

I need to replace my leaky calipers. I need advise on which type. I see two main types: 1. SS sleaved using stock pistons & lip seals. and 2. SS sleaved with new design pistons & o-ring seals.
The o-ring seals sound better. They claim better sealing for cars that sit a lot and better brake feel.

Anyone out there have any experence?
    Any effect on NCRS points?

if you have your original calipers sleeved with stainless or bronze, there will be no point deductions.i prefer stainless and have been using stainless steel brake in clarence ny for better than 25 years and no leaks. as far as pistons go, if your originals show no signs of oxidation of the anodization, then use them. if yours are pitted and flaking, replace with original gm pistons or opt for the stainless pistons(way more costly to go with stainless pistons) all the pistons have rubber seals. mike

The seals you are refering to I believe are the O-ring seals that will work better on rotors that are not true but the standard seals have worked for years and would be the most economical. I would not use the stainless steel pistons because they will heat soak in extreme braking and you will have a soft pedal. Complete calipers can be purchased that have stainless steel sleeves and have been rebuilt with new components for approx $89.95. Great deal and no more worries.

        Mike:

I would recommend replacement of the pistons. They are inexpensive, and they are subject to abrasion and/or corrosion. The bulk of the problem lies within the seal lands, as deposits and moisture tend to collect there. Any deposits that are found is a condemnation of the piston, because removal is not an option. If the anodization is compromised, in any way, then leaks will develop in short order.

I intend to purchase a complete rebuilt caliper. My question is should I purchase the calipers with the "New style pistons with o-rings" or the stock pistons with the stock lip seals. Both calipers have ss sleaves. The cost is about the same. I have seen them for about $60 each.
