    1954 transmission removal

I have a friend who needs to pull the powerglide from his 54. Can this be done without pulling the engine? Thanks, Don H.

      Don,

As Roy said, "sure, it can be done"

As with all solid axle cars, it is a tight fit but the transmission will come out between the X member and the engine.

You have to pull the carpet back and remove the plate at the top front of the tunnel to access the upper trans to adapter bolts. Make sure the car is up very high and well supported, remove the filler tube/dipstick and all the linkage connections.

      It will come out.

      Be careful, it is HEAVY!
