Do all 64 frames have gussets welded to the rear kickup cross member? Thanks in avance.

Re: 1964 frames
Mike, as you might know, the gussets essentially create a shelf for all types of moisture-retaining debris which causes the inside side of the side rail to rot out. My frame has these gussets. The used 64 coupe frame that I bought does NOT have these gussets so that has me wondering if there was an engineering change during the 64 run. My car is an early May car. Thanks,Jack- Top

Re: 1964 frames
Jack,
Page 146 of the 63/64 Judging Manual states....
"1963 and 1964 frames do not have mounting slots for side exhaust, reinforcement gussets in the frame "kick-up" area or a depression in the front crossmenber for harmonic balancer clearance required by 1965 and later big blocks."
You might try to verify your old frame is in fact a 64 by looking for any of the other identifiers mentioned here.

Re: 1964 frames
Tracy, I can see right now that this is going to develop into an interesting thread. I'm the original owner of the 64's frame with gussets. The used 64 frame has no gussets and no metal tabs for rocker panels but does have slotted holes(4) and 4 hanger remnants for perhaps side exhaust? I will have to contact the previous owner to verify my assumptions.
