The two side trim pieces, over the doors, have clips that pierced the original, soft headliner backing to hold it in position. With the new headliner having a plastic backing, do I need to pierce or cut slots in it where the clips need to go through it?

Re: '66 COUPE HEADLINER INSTALLATION
Rob,
-----I have done a bunch of these and all I ever did was make sure that there was enough clearance around those two clips for them to hit the slots they pop into. Be careful not to trim too much away. It was always a nailbiter for me. Maybe someone has a better way.............Bill S- Top

Re: '66 COUPE HEADLINER INSTALLATION
Bill,
As you might imagine, I broke the original clips trying to re-nstall the trim, and ordered new ones from LIC. When installing the trim, I assume you first fit the trim over the two edges sticking out of the roof first, then push the clip into the slot? Thought I'd ask before I try again to install them with the new $8 clips..
Thanks, Rob- Top

Re: '66 COUPE HEADLINER INSTALLATION
Rob,
--------Sorry! I have been away from the computer.
--------If you havent finished the job on your own already, Ill try to help. It seems to me that I slid the clip into the trim piece to the correct position on both pieces. Then I think I clipped one of the trim pieces into place. Then I slid the headliner between the body and trim on that side, and with the other side trim close by lifted the headliner into position and slipped the other piece of trim into place.
--------You can also start with the rear big panel in place but with out the screws being too tight, and not installed at all on the side, just the ones along the top. Then slide the headliner in that slot and push up the front trim piece to hold up the headliner. Then you can still move the headliner around a bit while you are installing the side pieces. Any way you do it the side pieces are a pain to get onto those clip things on the body. Good luck!.............Bill S- Top
