    Bowden Cable

I need big time help. But it must be accurate, no guesses please.
My car's interior caught on fire. It has been since repaired very well.
Fire's origin seems to be shorted wire (horn relay wire) made contact with
heater core retaining nut which inturn grounded to BOWDEN CABLE.
Here's the kicker. My 1972 BOWDEN CABLE is original owner car. This cable had
some type of covering. It has since completely melted away. The only remaining
wires are one larger stiff wire and 3 or 4 very thin wires that run the length
of the cable. These were all encased in some type of covering.
I NEED TO KNOW WHAT THAT COVERING WAS.
Please be careful in answering. I know that in about 1973 the cable was
changed to one stiff internal wire with a stiff hard plastic covering from
    one end to the other.
I am going to civil court on Oct.19th for a law suit against the shop that
burnt up my car and this covering question would sure help in explaining
it's burn ability of it's covering etc.
    Thanks Big John

    Re: Bowden Cable

Guys here is some more information about the Bowden Cable for my car.
On the end of cable that attaches to heater box it has a small timbel type
spring attached to it's end. Timbel is about 1/4" in diameter and about 1/2" long. This same end has loop at end of wire.
The other end of Bowden Cable just has a loop at the end.
I think this outer cable covering might have been some type of stiff-flex
METAL winding and not a black plastic like the later model's cable.
I really don't know at this point. I just remember when car was taken for
fire repair that the end of the cable by temp.control had a hold down clamp
fastner and I thought it clamped over something metal since clamp had arch burns
    on it.
I'm just not sure. GUYS YOUR HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED. BIG JOHN

        John,

-------While knowing very little about the model in question, I can say that I believe your assumptions to be correct. It sounds similar to 63/67s.
-------Those cables dont get replaced all that often so another car from the same vintage would more than likely give you direct, and posative proof of cable style. Im not sure what part of the country you are from, but maybe you have a vintage Vette dealer somewhere near you that could be talked into letting you take a look-see................Bill S

Bill $ J.Ray, thanks for your responses.
J.Ray I didn't understand your pin drop comment. I also couldn't find any
comments in your posting. Maybe I'm not clicking on the right word in your posting.
I really didn't read anything. Thanks Big John
