    C2 Clutch

I have 2 '65's with full frame off restoration. One is a 350hp and the other is a 300hp. My question is with the clutch fork. On the 350hp there is no play in the fork, that is I can't move it with my hand(linkage off the fork). The clutch works great on the 350hp. On the 300hp the fork can move about 2 inches back and forth. And to get the fork to push against the pressure plate I have to adjust the clutch rod, from firewall, all the way out and it still dosen't depress the pressure plate enough. My question is what is right, play or no play? or in between? The 350hp dosen't slip or chatter, it is perfect. The 300hp is terrible. I think we have already burned out he clutch. I thought maybe it (300hp) had the wrong z bar or clutch rod, but they are the same as the 350ho, once I took off the linkage from the fork, I noticed the differences mentioned above. Could it be the wrong fork or fork stud in bellhousing? The bellhousings are both the same "403" Any ideas?

Could the 300 HP car's clutch fork not be correctly installed on the throwout bearing?
