Which side does the short one go on? Correct replacement sets (the clear type, which are not clear but are white...) consist of one full length and one short mat - neither one fits either side very well, and I have seen them placed on both sides. It looks like the short one is supposed to go on the driver side based on a cutout, but the long one does not fit the passenger side very well because the top interferes with the brace which is under the heater box area. Inputs?

Re: Stupid Floor Mat Question (1969)
Everett,
As I understand them, the short mat goes on the drivers side. The original owner of my 71 was confused as well as he put the long mat on the drivers side. The clutch pedal bottoming out on the long mat confirmed thats what he did. It seems logical to me that the long mat would protect the carpet along the sloping area where the passengers feet would be.- Top

The short one goes on the driver's side. And, yes, they don't fit very well, especially the driver's side. The driver's side floormat will end up being such a pain that you may want to throw it out the window. One problem which it causes is "sticking" of the accelerator pedal. This can be almost dangerous.
The main problem with these mats is that there is nothing in the design to prevent them from moving around. And, they do.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
