Assy. manual (updated May '57) shows the valve mounted to the firewall with two machine screws inserted from the passenger compartment with securing washers and nuts in the engine compartment. My '56 heater valve is mounted with #10 machine screws inserted from the engine compartment with the mating holes in the intergal heater valve bracket being threaded to accept them. I can't imagine anything smaller than a #10 screw being used but I'd have to enlarge the holes in the bracket to mount #10 screws the way the assembly manual shows. Does anyone know if this is a documented distinction between '56 and (late) '57 cars?

Re: 1956 heater valve
Good, that tends to validate the way mine is installed. From a judging standpoint, I'd still like to hear from someone with a late '57 to see if the method was changed to the way the AIM illustrates. It seems to me that would be doing it the hard way, having to work on both sides of the firewall simultaneously.- Top
