    Restoration-Protecting finishes?

I'm sure this has been covered before but it's a hard topic to search for in the archives.
I've been doing mechanical work for a while but never had to be concerned that much about protecting finishes during assembly.

I'd like to know some tools, tips or technigues others use.

I've seen the plastic inserts that are used in a wrench to protect a finish, anyone use these?

    Thanks,

    Gary

I've used them and they work OK. I saw somewhere recently where they had a complete set of wrenches that had the softer inserts but it seems they were pretty pricey, around $150 or so if my memory hasn't failed me.

I bought the wrench inserts from Eastwood for around $20.
