Re: c-4 vin data
Mike, when I went thru the plant in '87, the only vin I saw on the frame was on a verticle flange in the area of the steering box. I don't remember any vin on the suspension components, but I didn't spend much time in that part of the plant.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: c-4 vin data
Mike-----
I can't be of any help with C4 alternate VIN locations.
As far as the rear suspension goes, it was very similar during all of the C4 years. There were relatively minor changes made, though, and the suspensions fall into these year category groupings: 84-85, 86-87, and 88-96. To tell which series you have, you might try checking the casting numbers on the rear knuckle aluminum castings. The numbers should be the following (or some numbers which are close to these numbers):
84-85--- 14105903, left, and 14105904, right
86-87--- 14084093, left, and 14084094, right
88-96--- 10052209, left, and 10052210, right
For the differential unit, the ID information can usually be found electro-etched on the lower right portion of the rear of the "cover" section of the crossmember/housing assembly. If you are not already aware of it, a Dana 36 has EIGHT "cover" attaching bolts; a Dana 44 has SIX cover attaching bolts. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
