I have an assembly manual with all the part numbers for my 65, every time I try a part number at GM, they say its discontinued. For example a fan clutch in the manual is 3814560 but the new number is 3916141. Is there a cross reference manual or something?

The VAST, VAST majority of the part numbers shown in your 1965 AIM have been discontinued or superceded, perhaps several times. There are probably only a handful of 1965 part numbers that are still available from GM under the original numbers.
There is no single-source "cross reference" manual available. Many of the part numbers in the 1965 AIM even a GM dealer would not be able to tell you the current ststus of (i.e. whether there is a currently available supercessive part number). I'll bet that the dealer came up with the 3916141 part number by going to the 53-82 Corvette parts catalog and looking the number up that way and not "cross-referencing" it from the 3814560. The 3916141, if it's actually still available, is the current SERVICE replacement part for your application. It's similar to the original fan clutches used for 1965 but it's easily discernable as being "non-original" for a 1965.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1965 Assembly manual part numbers not correct?
the fellow at the chevy partscounter, aka mr goodwrench, will be able to supply a part, if still available, that will function when one of the original parts takes a crap.the currently available part may or may not be identical to the original , but it will interchange without too much hassle.whether it takes a deduct for conformational difference, depends on the part in question. for example, the currently available fan clutch differs in configuration from the original 65 fan clutchs and will merit a small deduct on the judging field. mike- Top
