I always heard this was impossible...

But here is an NOS pair of "remanufactured" spiral shock absorbers. Anyone know anything about this "Buck" company? Like how long ago was this?

No, it's not impossible to obtain "rebuilt" shocks. As I've mentioned previously, rebuilt shocks used to be available in the replacement parts marketplace. I don't think that they're available anymore, though; at least I've not seen or heard of any. Basically, these things were for REAL LOW BUDGET type car repairs and you would mostly find them at auto parts stores in "economically deprived" areas. In the last 20 years, or so, the price of low budget, new shocks has come down so low that I think that the rebuilds were "forced out of the market". These shocks appear to be in very old boxes, like maybe 50s vintage.

In general, these things simply had a small hole drilled in them and new fluid added. Shocks that leaked badly at the end seal(s) were simply discarded as "unusable cores" by the "rebuilder". I think that some of these may have been cut and re-welded on the ends after some minor internal refurbishing, though.

shocks can remaned by drilling a small hole in the body and removing the fluid. then you refill with a heavier oil and hit the drilled hole with a wire welder. racers did it all the time to get stiffer shocks than you could buy or could not afford to buy ones that were available. when you want to race and do not have the money you have to improvise. i guess this would work with worn out shocks by using a heavier oil to make up for the worn parts as long as the shaft seal was not leaking
