    1980 antenna

I had parked my 1980 outside for a while (1 month) as I restored my 59 and when I started it up the power antenna would not stop running. I have had to disconect the battery to stop it. The mast is stuck half way up and I have tried to help it both up and down but it will not budge. Anyone have any ideas?

    Regards, Steve

    Re: 1980 antenna

The cable inside has broken. There is a repair kit available from many corvette suppliers but it takes some time to install. The antenna has to be taken apart and with 21 year old plastic, the case may crack while it is disassembled. On the Corvette Forum C3, there are several threads about the techniques and difficulties of installing this repair kit. Or you can buy a GM replacement, part no. 22048621 which lists for $142 and is often available for less. It is complete including a new wiring harness and antenna lead. Only difference is the tip of the mast and top nut stick up a bit from the rear fender, not mounting flush like the original.
