    C-1 Flywheel

The flywheel on my '58 283/270 has a number (~10) of cracks emenating from the center approximately 1/2" to 1 1/2" long equally distributed around the perimeter. While most seem to be surficial a couple you can get a thin blade knife blade into. Should I be concerned? Should I expect more or less the same if I order a resurfaced/used from Corvette Central, etc.?
    Thanks
    Dwight

What matters is how deep the cracks are. If the cracks can be eliminated by surfacing the flywheel, then there should be no problems. If not, you'll need to replace it. If you're really concerned, have the flywheel magna-flux inspected after resurfacing.

Thanks Joe. I think that I will play it safe and replace the flywheel. Nothing like having a hand grenade waiting to destroy your car.
