Re: You got what I meant Mike – thanks

I'm a little sorry I only recently found out about this endeavor. It would have been nice to dress up and attend the open house.
I am curious how much of that expensive machinery is owned by dealers, and how much is in private hands. I noted a trailer advertising a business preparing race cars, and dealer plates on a Lotus. On the other hand, it was encouraging to see a Mustang prominently featured in the photos.
The details of the promised extensive track time beg for answers as well. All in all it is an intriguing concept.

Chicago Region looking for this a long time

When I was in Chicago Region SCCA in '95 and '96, there was lots of talk about this type of project. At Blackhawk one weekend, there were plans for a track which may be this one and the premise was a private club where you joined like a country club. Of course, many discussed the costs, although no one knew then what they would be, and all cringed at the thought of $10,000, $15,000, or so for a membership.

However, in light of track rentals, the cost per track time is relatively low. About 10 years ago, rental on some northeast road courses ran $10,000. The last rental rate I heard for Roebling Road was about 8 years ago and was around $3000 for a limited number of people. Some people would rent the track, go out with a few close friends to share the costs, and have 8 hours or more of track time. An organized club with all proper insurances could rent roughly the same rate.

If you went out one day a week, you'd have 52 days for $15,000 or $20,000 if you wait. That is only around $300 a day and falls in line with just about any practice days at any track.

You'd have to have lots of spendable income, then a couple of thousand for a day of playing is fine. If you are a serious racer, then lots of days are a necessity to hone your skill.

I noticed the site had a place for track rentals, so no doubt they will begin renting the track to organizations to recoup some costs. So a push on the NCCC clubs in the area may get you a chance to be there. Likewise, MWSCC will probably get an in sometime. And while SCCA is mainly Blackhawk Farms and Road America, a track in their backyard is bound to capture a date or two if the rental isn't out of line. After all, who doesn't want to tow 40 miles vs. 150.
