Will the ZZ572 crate engine fit in a 68 coupe without modification to the BB non-cowl hood? Would there be any other problems with such an install?

Re: ZZ572 Engine
Kevin, I believe that with any kind of decent intake the air cleaner and hood would probably hit. Another problem would be cooling. I do not think that the stock radiator would be adequate. I think that you should step up and purchase a DeWitt or Griffin aluminum radiator. I believe that the bolt patern on the end of the crank is different from the original 427 therefore you will have to buy a new flywheel. Other than having a problem keeping your drivers license I think that it would be a neat installationDick Whittington- Top

Re: ZZ572 Engine
Kevin,
I believe the 572 is based on a tall deck block in which case you'd have problems with the power brake booster and potentially other components since the taller deck means the engine is taller and wider than a stock big block. By the way this is off topic for the NCRS forum so you may want to try the corvette forum from the link below.

Re: ZZ572 Engine
You need to use a stock low-rise intake(AKA 1971 LS6 with an original low profile air cleaner base) to clear the stock hood. You can still do this on a tall deck block by using intake manifold spacers, but your intake will sit about 1/4" higher. This shouldn't be a problem, but worst case, you can get a custom air cleaner made 1/4" shorter than stock.
Good luck,
