re front grill joe lucia tom freeman's response is correct all s and very early s used chrome faced black plastic grilles later s used no chrome facing also be advised that gm service grilles for both and are black plastic without the chrome facing the chrome faced grilles have not been available as a service part for years your friends is likely an early production car with correct grilles confirm by low serial number your has had the grilles replaced somewhere along the way with gm service grilles

re front grill dick whittington just a note the leading edge of the grille was painted with silver paint not chrome plated it just takes a little time and effort to paint the service replacement grilles

re front grill everett ogilvie hello just a question regarding this chrome plated vs painted item i have an early ' car and will be needing to replace the grilles the car is early enough to require the chrome or silver leading edges seems like dobbins said ' cars into the serial range used silver now i spoke once with the car's original owner about the grilles and he vaguely recalled that he might have replaced them due to the chrome facing sort of peeling off some sort of mylar facing so were they painted or plated thanks everett

re front grill gene manno guys dick whittington stated it correctly that silver paint was used on original cars gm did not use chrome the silver was sprayed on the forward edge with typical gm over spray on the top surface
