I have been taking a look at some of these restored Holley carbs on ebay. Some of them really look great with a nice even finish on all of the parts, some with a green tinted gold iridescent color.
The 67 technical guide says the carb should be gold iridescent. I have a replacement 3810 (1979 replacement)on the bench which I'm planning to restore. It is predominately gold iridescent, although the darkness of the finish varies from part to part. Some of the smaller parts actually have a slight green tint, and all of the major parts have an ink stamped part number on them. I got new replacement bowls for it as one is cracked. The NOS secondary in its original old box is a very light gold iridescent, the other primary bowl (brand new one) has the green iridescent tint.
I've got a plating kit and I'm thinking of replating some or all of the parts.
So, my question is: How did these carburetors look when they came out of the factory? Were all the parts uniform in finish, did any have that slight green tint to them? Did they have part numbers ink stamped on them?
From a judging standpoint, how does a carburetor with a uniform finish on all the parts, stand up against one that has variable gold iridescent finish on individual parts such as the fuel bowls, metering block and air horn.
Or am I just getting anal about this?
