Re: Is the NCRS TIM and Judging Guide Wrong????
You are correct. 770 heads are right for 58. Your heads should have an X58 on the outside of the head that can be seen. Take a picture of your casting # and casting date and take it to judging with you. Sometimes at a chapter meet there are not enough judges and they might be experenced in other years but not solid axle. The JG is a little unclear from it's pictures.- Top

Re: Is the NCRS TIM and Judging Guide Wrong????
Jeff, the heads on my '58 283/270 hp have the same casting symbols as shown in the 58-60 NCRS TIM&JG. One of the symbols is on the front of the head and the other is on the rear of the head. They also have a #3748770 casting number on each head with the triangular/pyramid mark underneath with x-58 on the side of the head. I have not been judged so am interested in your delima.

Re: Is the NCRS TIM and Judging Guide Wrong????
What symbol is shown in the TIM & Judging Guide? My 770 heads have a rectange with pyramid on one end and only the pyramid on the other end. X58 on the outside. I've heard that the Flint castings had the symbols machined verses others have an as cast texture. Maybe someone on the board can verify this. I can send pics of mine if that helps. Ted- Top

Mine is just like the 2nd picture
Ted
My 770 head has the same mark as the second picture, the one of the rusted head.
The NCRS judging guide shows a completely different mark, not shown in any pictures sent so far. From left to right it shows a medium hump, small point, large hump with a shoulder of the left side than another small hump. I have never seen this mark other than in judging guide.
Based on all the responses it seams most 770 heads have the same mark as mine. It appears the manual is incorrect.
Have you ever seen the mark described?
Thanks
Jeff

Re: Mine is just like the 2nd picture
Jeff, Mine are like the 2nd picture also. What you described doesn't sound familiar with anything I've seen. The other picture was of an earlier head. Both of these are courtesy of ebay. It sounds like the judging manual has to be off. Ted- Top
