    Beware of phoney Ebay email!!

I just received a phony email that was almost a perfect forgery of something from ebay. It asked me to sign in and give my credit card and other personal information. I am certain it was a fake and I reported it to ebay.

I know a lot of us have ebay accounts so I wanted to pass this along. If you've already responded, change your account info, and call your credit card company immediately!

I get those messages almost weekly. Forward them to: spoof@ebay.com A similar scam goes something like: Your PayPal account will be suspended unless you update info...... Forward those to: spoof@paypal.com

I got one last week. Wanted my social security number, bank account info and password. Looked just exactly like genuine Ebay. I sure hope people aren't really falling for this.

I know someone who works for Ebay. They have a whole team of people that only investigate this type of fraud all day. That is why they do not let you use your email address anymore for your ID (as they did years ago). This has helped at least lessen the "potential vicitims".

Forward these phony EMails to spoof@ebay.com I've gotten several over the past few years. I always get a response from EBAY, saying "yes" this was a phony. Chuck

Exactly the same scam is going on with e-mails with embedded links to fake websites for Citibank, SunTrust, Visa, and many other financial institutions; none of them EVER contact their customers via e-mail.

There was a warning on the news Sunday evening about messages that look valid from various banks, AOL, ebay, etc. Beware!!!

                  Don't answer them

Then they know the email is valid and read. Then it goes to the "sell" pile and ends on on the spammer lists.

I had a friend fall for it. He sent everything, SSN, bank numbers, etc.

Halfway though, his computer locked up, so he doesn't know if it sent or not. I told him call the bank right now and begin changing password everywhere.

                    He lucked out.

                      Re: Don't answer them

Mike is right. If you dont answer them, eventually they think that the email address is invalid and they dont send anymore.
