C1 Fuel Pump and Fuel Filter

I am confused. I will be straightening out the fuel system on my '56. It is a 210 hp, 1X4 Powerglide car. Am I right that the bowl filter should contain a stone element? Or, should it contain a paper one? Also, what is the correct fuel pump number for my car? Should it have the "AC" logo on the top? When I replace the tank, sending unit, pump and filter element, I would like it to be correct, or, would anyone recommend a newer fuel pump for better efficiency? Thanks.

Mike, The vin number is E56SOO4071. It was about 90 cars or so from the end of production. Thanks.

The filter is not stone but a redish color cone paper, pump will have AC on top . The original pump is OK and it can be rebuilt. Carry a kit with you also.

Filter will show a domed configuration on the top with a large "AC" cast onto the top surface of the domed area, much different than the later AC filters used thru '62 I beleive there are pictures in the JG

"Large AC" domed fuel filter uses GF-124 element (the brown one, not the paper one). Late 1956 fuel pump is 4346 "long screw" model. It will have AC on top and 4346 stamped into flange. It uses 3/8" fuel lines (from tank to pump) instead of the earlier 5/16" fuel line. From an earlier post, I recall you are replacing a 4460 pump which is a replacement for the earlier 1956 4262 fuel pump. I believe that the inlet/outlet configurations between the 4346 and 4262 (hence 4460) are different so it may require a different pump to carburator line than you are currently using.
