Re: DIP STICK
Danny,
That would depend on the time build of your car. The early production cars, up to somewhere around the 4000 or 5000 range, would have had a black painted stick and later cars would have been chrome. Some time around December 1962, GM added chrome to several parts of the 63 engines including the oil filler tube/cap, dip stick, fuel filter bracket etc etc.
In either case, the dip stick should have the early design washer and felt seal at the top instead of the rubber cup seal.

Re: DIP STICK
Danny,
If you're refering to the hoop at the top of the stick, I would say that you've run into some judges that are just trying to impress instead of accurately judge a car. That stick can be, and was, installed either way. There is no incorrect way. I have many pictures of these cars on the assy line and there's about a 50/50 split on the installation direction.
Just curious on the seal at the top of the reproduction sticks. Is it a rubber cup or just a semi flat disc and felt washer? Thanks,
