C-3 Transmission Info

The Corvette Black Book lists head, block, carburetor, distributor and alternator numbers. I have my transmission number. Where is a good source to qualify that this number is the "matching" number for my car?

Thomas The VIN should be stamped on the side of transmission just like the block. Lyle

If 4 speed, the VIN will be stamped into the side of the case. Likely on automatic cars also, but I don't know the location for automatic cars.

Auto vin tags are on the passenger side, Up and to the rear of the modulator valve, rivited on.

On the TH400 there is a tag in that location, Chas, with build information. A date can be derived from the numbers stamped on that plate. However, the VIN derivative on TH400 is stamped on a flat area near where the gear selector cable bracket attaches to the pan rail, on the driver's side. Sometimes the rubber bellows on the end of that cable needs to be moved slightly to see the VIN derivative stamp.
