1958; Upon diassembly I did not find a "filler strip" in the upper channel. There was a fair amount of grey sealer/putty in the channel. Should I attempt to get a filler strip or just load it up with sealer. Where can I get the sealer and any brand or name suggestion is appreciated. Thanks, Ken

Re: C1 windshield frame
I would use the filler strip, if for no other reason, it will serve as a cushion between the glass and frame during assembly. Make sure you remove all of the old putty before re-assembly. This will allow the rubber to fit properly.

Re: C1 windshield frame
Larry; I just did all this and bought the filler from CC. The new one is just a 3/8 square foam with sticky on one side. I put it in anyway. It serves one important purpose , to keep the upper nut plate from moving too far into the chanel when you are wrestling the rubber and frame parts together.
Advice; assemble the frame with no rubber or glass and place it on the car for a trial fit, then tighten the top screws, mark the lower frame to end peices, remove from car, allign marks and tighten the lower nut plate screws. After this place some good hard putty next to those lower nut plates, on the long sides so they can not slip around the rubber or away from thier proper location, This makes the job much easier to find them after the rubber and frames are in place I learned the hard way and followed the service books sugestion to use an awl to find the nut plate holes! --Bad idea.
I used non hardening 3-m black strip caulk in the bottom of my rubber next to the glass, this gives you plenty of time to assemble and will not make a huge mess everywhere. One 1/4" beed right in the bottom. David- Top
