    Window Sticker for 62 corvette

Is there a way to determine if a 62 window sticker is authentic? Things to check for, etc?

The first three I can think of are:

    1. is there any glue residue on it?
    2. is it printed with a laser printer?
    3. do the inks run if wet?

The sticker is laminated. It does look like it was attached to the window at one time. Some of the paper and ink are missing along the top edge. It was not printed by a laser printer. It looks more like something that was printed with a typewriter. The ink lightly runs and fills in the inside of the circles on some of the numbers like 9, 6 and 8. The paper is not white. It appears that it has yellowed slightly over time. All of the info is correct. I was told that it is original. I was just looking for a way to verify for sure. Thanks for your help.

It is probably easier to determine a window sticker is a fake than if it is real. If it were completely intact and perfect, like one shown on eBay, I'd tend to think it a reproduction or fake as these tend to get torn when removing from the car.

What you describe is in line with real, but then those looking for the big bucks once did lots of aging processes to achieve the right look.

The problem with documents is that someone created it using simple printing processes and we can do a very good job of replicating it, much easier than replicating any other part, so real documentation and documentation someone whipped out a month ago can often be hard to distinquish if the printer today wants it to look authentic.

Heck, people counterfeit $20 bills all the time, so how hard is a window sticker? And when you figure you can make $10,000 with a window sticker on the right car, it makes those phony $20s a waste of time. So a payback like this, it can be worth it to someone to phony up the docs to make a 327-300 hp auto into a 435 hp or whatever else you need.

What does the actual VIN of the car look like? Final numbers in blue? Uneven, as if there was no specific line at the bottom? Those are a couple of things to look at.

I am lucky enough to have the original sticker to one of my 63's as well as a well crafted "aged" reproduction to one of my other cars. By far the easiest way to tell the difference is the feel, texture, and appearance of the paper they are printed on. In addition the clarity or "crispness" of the type is much less on the original.

It is very helpful to have a known original next to the document in question.
