    T-10 C vs. D

I own a '61 "driver". Upon inspecting the transmission case I noticed that it is a T-10 D dated 1963. I know that the C is correct for the car and I believe that the "D" was offered in 1963 only.

What are the differences between the units? Somewhere I read that the front bearing is heavier in the D. Is there anything else? I am trying to learn as much as possible as it started popping out of second gear and I will rebuild it this winter. I want to do it right the first time and only once.

Is the D any more desireable or valueable than the more common C?

    Thanks,
    Mike

The front bearing in the "D" case is actually smaller in diameter, and uses a smaller bearing retainer in Corvette and smallblock passenger car, requiring the "421 bellhousing in those applications. There is however an alternate front bearing retainer that fits the "D" case and allows the use in a bellhousing with the larger diameter pilot hole, for use in the 409 engine package. If your bellhousing is original, and the bearing retainer outside diameter matches your bellhousing, you should be in good shape for your "driver"

The INSIDE configuration or the 2 different front bearing retainers is also different because 62-earlier uses a snap ring to retain the bearing on the input shaft and 63 uses the left hand threaded nut. Thus, the input shafts are also different.
