    C2 Door panel

Am seeking advice on how to install whiskers on my door panels for my 65 coupe. The panels were purchased from A.K. but never had whiskers put on. Is this something I can manage on my own or should I send them out.If someone would give me a few tips on how to do this that would be swell. Another few questions, my coupe is an early car (5371) and does not have any seatbelt cups, interior is silver, 1. did they produce a silver cup? 2. would my car have had any to begin with? Any and all answers are welcome.

    Re: C2 Door panel

The door panel whiskers are not very difficult to install. They are held on the door panels with staples. The usual vendors cary the staples (Long Island Corvette, Paragon) use a drill and a 1/16" drill bit to drill through the whiskers and the door panel. Install the staple in the hole and use a pair of pliers to fold over the staple. Take your time and line the whiskers up properly before you drill.

      Joe -

Seat belt cups? If you mean the one screwed to the back side of the luggage stop panel, that's for shoulder belt buckles, and they weren't available until 1966.

        Seat belt cups + retractors

These were a running change in '65 and Noland Adams did a reasonable job looking into this topic in his "Complete Corvette Restoration, Vol 2" book. Here's an excerpt.

"Another part accompanied the retractor: a molded plastic cup for the retracted belt wo sit in. The plastic cup was produced in colors to match the interior trim: black, red, blue, silver, green, white or maroon.

At the same time serial number 105733 was built (late December 1964), these cups began to be installed along with the retractors. But some Corvettes in this serial number range did not have cups. We tried to find some replationship, assuming that the assyembly line may have been out of cups of a certain color from time to time. Many '65 owners feel that red cups were in short supply, but hat was not substantiated by our survey.

The last car reporting belts without retractors was 113898 (13,898). After that, all '65's had the retractors. But cups were still missing from random examples until 116872 (16,872). Serial number 116902 (16,902) and all following reported both the retractors and cups."

So, this is an 'iffy' question. The cups and retractors were introduced at the same time (December time frame around the build of 5733), but some owners surveyed reported retractors present and cups not present with some as early as 5510 saying their car had retractors but no cups and some as late as 16872 having retractors and no cups.

An educated guess would say your VIN would most likely have left the factory without cups OR retractors....
