C2 SB Radiator Plug vs. Petcock

The 66 JM calls for a plug in the SB aluminum radiator while the assembly manual shows a plug. Tom DeWitt is of the opinion that it should be a pet cock. My new DeWitt replacement radiator has a petcock. Has anybody ever inspected an original radiator to determine if the drain should be a plug or petcock.

Long Island is one of the few places that sells aluminum plugs. I assume that their plug will thread into the existing petcock threads? I haven't inspected my petcock but assume that it is probably a 1/4in. pipe thread.

    Regards,
    Dave Kitch

Petcocks may be better, but, originals have plugs. *NM*

      Dave,

I agree with Tom DeWitt. I'm pretty sure these were installed in new Harrison radiators when shipped to the assy plant. My new 64 coupe had the AL pedcock and both of my 63's still have their originals.

When I bought my '65 in 1987 it came with a brand new, still in shrink-wrap plastic on cardboard (GM replacement) Harrison aluminum radiator with a pet cock.
