Re: Non-Corvette Related, BUT.....
The following is exerpted from a Chicago Tribune column by John Kass, who is the Trib's terrier constantly yapping at the corruption in city hall.
Kerry is a lost cause, even if `his' team wins
Published October 28, 2004
John Kerry believes he's a Boston Red Sox fan, especially now, with the Red Sox in the World Series.
This may be true. Or it could be mere politics, all about convincing voters he's a regular guy and not just some nerdy politician who married the rich Mrs. Ketchup.
Lately he's been seen purchasing a hunting license with a Hollywood Hillbilly accent, shooting guns, throwing balls and drinking beer, all in manly fashion.
He already has proved he's a Red Sox fan, like the time last summer when he applauded the great "Manny Ortiz."
Unfortunately for Kerry, there is no Manny Ortiz on the ballclub. The Red Sox do have a David Ortiz and a Manny Ramirez, though.
I suppose if Ortiz and Ramirez were united in a Massachusetts civil union--something tasteful, not overdone--then one of them could call himself Manny Ortiz, if he wanted to.
But would these strong-willed athletes discuss things and share responsibilities equally, like which one hits to the right side of the infield to advance the runner, and which one swings for the fences?
Perhaps these issues should best be left up to federal judges and not baseball managers.
.........
I wrote this column before Game 4 of the World Series on Wednesday night, since I wanted to watch the game, so for all I know, the Red Sox could have won and swept the Cardinals.
If they do win, will Kerry be tempted to talk about his great personal moments of Red Sox history?
"My favorite Red Sox player of all time is `The Walking Man,' Eddie Yost," he told baseball reporters a while back.
Yet as Boston baseball writer Peter Gammons pointed out, Eddie Yost never played for the Red Sox. He played for the old Washington Senators.
Ooops.
Kerry also claims he sat in Fenway Park for the 1986 World Series against the Mets, the night that ground ball rolled through Bill Buckner's legs. Yet according to newspaper accounts, Kerry was at a political fundraiser that night.
This might help us understand Kerry's mind, which supporters say allows him to see the world more clearly than other politicians'.
Kerry talks in a Jethro accent when buying a hunting license because he believes hunters speak country. He believes Yost played for Boston. He believes he witnessed the Buckner ground ball. His mind makes it so.
Kerry's a fan who's just got to believe.

CORRECTION: Kerry says he was in attendance at that 1986 New York Mets vs. Boston World Series game when Bill Buckner missed the ground ball. Yet Kerry was also spotted at a political fundraiser in Boston that same night. My mistake was in saying the game was at Fenway Park. Actually, the game took place at Shea Stadium.- Top

It's going to be great to see the Red Sox visit the White House and meet President Kerry.- Top

As a 50 year Red Sox fan and season ticket holder I will bask in the glory along with all the other Red Sox fans who have endured the last 86 years(or some part of it). Boy was it sweet and made sweeter by the way it all unfolded. I'm no Kerry fan but now I'm a Cubs fan.- Top

Just a question of a newbie European (into the American Foodball scene):
Why is it called World Series ? Are other countries from all over the world involved in this competition ?

Re: Non-Corvette Related, BUT.....
Rob, actually, the World Series evolved as a result of a comment made in 1918 by Boston player Manny Ortiz, "I don't take the world serious" That comment has mutated thru the years to the current "World Series". Just a litle American history.

Re: Non-Corvette Related, BUT.....
Maybe Kerry can get a position as Bat Boy for Boston when he looses the election. That way he can practice the players names and try to remember them the next time he perpetuates a lie.
"Just my political two cents"
Now switching back to the Corvette side of my brain.
