    Hub Caps

Does anybody know how to tell the difference between reproduction and original hub caps on a C1 car? Is there any marking on the original hub caps ie: part number?

Examine the wheelcovers in bright sunlight. The originals will appear as an ice-blue color because of smack chrome plating during manufacture. Reproduction wheelcovers have a yellow hue which results from polishing stainless steel. In fact ALL the C1 stainless trim was smack chromed. This process was more cost efficient than the labor intensive polishing procedure.

Some reproduction wheelcovers have a different appearance around the inside of the circumference where the stainless is folded back on itself but NOT all. There are no part numbers or other identifying marks on originals OR reproduction pieces. The inside of the spinners however do show a part number, (both original and reproduction) but the originals also show "GMD" instead of "C Central"!
