pulled the trans out over the week-end because of speedo not working , found the gear sitting on shaft just forward of the hole , gave a bit of leverage with a screwdriver and it moved. i can move this gear back and forth on the shaft with a bit of pressure, i cannot see a clip on the gear . Question -should i be able to see the clip? should i be able to move the gear? and the correct placement of the gear- in front of hole in trans , slightly off to one side ? and the input shaft was picking up a bit of the pilot bushing , should i install a new bushing or install a bearing? and when installing the bushing do you immerse in oil overnightand a bit of grease on install of trans or is this bushing pre lubed for life.

The gear inside the trans should not move, and you will likely have to pull the tailhousing off to find the problem. If it is a plastic gear, the clip will locate it in the correct position, it only goes one way, and the clip locates via a tang that goes into a hole in the shaft.Bill Clupper #618- Top
