    1959 Fuel injection....stall

Any troubleshooting advice is appreciated. My '59 restoration is just completed with correct fuel injection. The choke works fine, the enrichment lever moving to the lean stop correctly, idle is good, pulling about 19" vacuum. Acceleration is fine but if I let off the throttle quickly the engine stalls. Readjusting the lean stop doesn't seem to help. This condition can be duplicated with the car parked, by manually operating the throttle. Always stalls after holding the throttle open to about 2,000 to 2,500 rpm and letting if off quickly. If I decelerate gradually the stall can be avoided. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

    Eric,
If I were you, I would contact Jerry Bramlett. He is very knowledgable on these units and can probably steer you in the right direction. He should be listed on the user directory.

    Regards, John McGraw

      Agree.

In fact, send the unit to him for a tuning if needed. He just did one heck of a great job on my friend's unit. He actually runs them on a car and makes sure they're 100% running right before sending them out.

How was the lean stop calibration determined? Could you have any vaccuum leaks? Even slight leaks can throw things off. What is your idle speed?

Check carefully for vacuum leaks. From what you describe, it doesn't sound like the CSV, but it wouldn't hurt to test it anyway. It will create a huge vacuum leak if the diaphram is bad. If nothing is evident, contact Jerry Bramlett. jerrybramlett@comcast.net

I don't know why in the world you wouldn't be

contacting Jerry Bramlett. Sharpest guy I know on these things. There are others but he is one of the ones that knows what he is doing.

Jerry Bramlett is the person you want to talk to. I know Jerry well, he is very meticulous with his work and knows these fuel injection units inside and out.

Guys, thanks for the advice. I have talked to Jerry and got some points to check out. I wanted to correct this problem without pulling the FI unit if possible. Idle is about 800 RPM, and I can detect no vacuum leaks. In all other respects the unit seems to be functioning properly. Thanks for your input again.

                  Eric,

If the unit has been sitting unused for any length of time (several months? years?) then don't waste your time. Send it to Jerry, even if it has previously been restored. FI units don't like to sit and that only creates problems.
