69 alt bracket 427 w/PS

sorry for soooo many questions but all have you have been so helpful.
the outer most alt support bracket goes on the long alt bolt and then to what? the assembly manual sorta shows a stud on the water pump, but if you look in the parts catalogs they show it to the other end of the boxed in alt mounting bracket to the head.(the latter is where it was when i bought the car) mine is sorta bent and someone has elongated one hole so it could fit either way. which way is correct?

Dick,

The other end of the bracket you are referring to should be bolted to the rear alternator bracket as shown in the picture. It is not connected to a stud on the water pump as shown in the AIM. When installed correctly it can only go on one way due to interference with the other brackets.

jay, THANKS! its frustrating how many of the pictures are either not clear or wrong in the AIM. i took a bunch of pictures before i took the car apart but a lot of the stuff had been tinkered with over the years. i have a bunch of camaros and a chevelle, but am new to the vette world. i restore radios if you ever need any help.
