Does the plastic owners manual envelope have a date or date code on the back side? Also, when did the second edition manual start to appear in the 1967 cars? The second edition is dated April 1967, so did they start appearing in April?
Thanks,
Rick
Rick,
The second version plastic envelopes have a side view of a yellow key with a hexagon head and are dated sometime in 1966. (I think its 10-66 but I'm not at home to get exact date). The earlier version has no key and is dated sometime in 1963. So depending on the build date of your car you need either the early or second style. As it relates to the Owners manual one can only guess as to the exact date second editions arrived in St. Louis for in insertion in the car on the assembly line. Common sense says there may have been some overlap in the April date but nobody really knows.
I wish I could reach back in time and into that bin of 67 owners manuals and grab about 20 of them. Based on the recent ebay price of mint owners guides, I could pay for my whole restoration and more! I know, I'm dreaming. While I'm at it, I should walk over to where they kept the 67 aluminum wheels and grab a few of them too.....
This mornings post contained some incorrect information. The second version of the plastic envelope w/ the hexagon key were dated 3-16-66, not 10-66. Obviously all 1967 cars along w/ later 1966 cars would have the second version envelope. Someday I'll learn not to guess. Sorry for any inconvenience.
We used about 40 of those "top hat" screws on the lower tunnel cover and on the engine-to-body rubber seal retainer strips on every '65-'66-'67 Corvair; shoulda brought a pocketful home - my line did both jobs
Hi John. I have a feeling the FI air cleaner "S" tube screws in question are the unique "L" head 63 and early 64 style, not the late 64-65 tall screws. I have a few closeup pic's of one here somewhere. Will post if I can find them.
Also have some interesting news about a new reproduction Z-28 Crossram manifold to be released soon. Came off the original GM tooling! I'll email.
