$495 for 75+ lbs of '63-69 (Corvette) used Bolts

eBay, of course. 4 Ziplock bags full. There were 14 different bidders on this auction.

    Any comments ?

I "bookmarked" that auction. Absolutely amazing price. What can one say? Chuck

Are they the same as GM Bolts ???

        wayne

I always thought most of the bolts used in the c2 & c3 Corvetts were the same as the ones used in many other GM cars of the same period. I have read articles suggesting going to scrap yards to find correct bolts for a restoration because the bolts were common across the GM line. Am I correct? If so how can one be sure if these are actually bolts from Corvetts?

            Yes, for the mostpart ...

.... I saw one stud among the piles that MAY be Corvette-only ('63-65 idler pulley stud). The rest could have been on any GM product, and only the head markings may have been period-specific.

I was struck by how narrow a size range the stash was --- friends with a local Corvette shop have 45-gallon drums full of bolts, nuts, anything considered of little value, that were removed from parted-out-Corvettes starting in the mid-'70s.

That's what I did in the 70s. Went to junkyards and removed bolts, nuts, washers, clips, connectors, etc. Went for the greasy ones. The rusty ones were too much trouble. Got a couple buckets full. I use them all the time to this day. Wish I got more. Shoulda got radiator and heater hose clamps too. I believe all GM fasteners were the same. I didn't look at the head markings when I was taking them off cars. Now when I look at them, I see that many are the same, but some are different. I didn't care at the time. Now I've got enough of them that I can usually come up with enough that match for my application.

Get a bucket of parts cleaner and those taps and dies that don't take off too much metal. The ones that clean the threads as opposed to cutting them. If you really want to get fancy, Eastwood sells kits that'll replate the fasteners.
