All '67-'69 Camaros had a single oval transverse muffler (except those with chambered exhausts); the dual-exhaust oval transverse muffler had an inlet and an outlet on each end. '69 Z/28's built after mid-April through the end of production in November also had resonators in the exhaust pipes to reduce exhaust noise, under the rear seat area, ahead of the transverse muffler.
The chambered system was two totally separate systems; the two transverse chambered mufflers were physically clamped together as a single unit, but each only served one bank of cylinders. Early '69 Z/28's through November '68 had the chambered system as standard equipment, but it was cancelled as standard in November due to customer complaints of excessive noise tickets. The chambered system was then available as RPO NC8 until mid-May 1969, when it was cancelled entirely.
