    Midyear Steering Wheel

Could anyone tell me if there is any difference in the stock plastic steering wheel made for the 66 model year and 67 model year steering wheel. Was considering buying one for my 67, from a 66, but am not sure if they are the same or not.

    Thanks for your help,

    Don

attachment of wheel to hub differs . the 67 and 68 vette wheels will interchange but to use a 66 wheel on your 67 will require the use of a 63 to 66 hub. there is a step on the 67 and 68 that the earlier midyears lack. some chevelles used the 67 style wheel and are usua;lly less expensive buying from the chevelle forks than vette knowledgable folks. mike

      Don -

The '66 steering wheel spider is stamped from one piece, and is only one thickness at the center where it screws to the die-cast hub; the '67 wheel has the six o'clock spoke as a separate piece, welded to the bottom of the center portion of the spider, which creates two thicknesses at that position, and the hub has a cast local recess there to accept the added thickness. You can't use a '67 wheel on a '66 hub.

Along these same lines, is there a wheel that looks like the 67 wheel that is slightly smaller diameter, but still fits?

              Tim,
I believe Eric at Freemans Design has made a beautiful 67 wheel...with a slightly smaller diameter.

Can you provide any contact information for Freemans Design?

Here is the info to get in touch with Eric Freeman who in my opinion makes the nicest repro teak wheels on the market.
