Is this the correct part number for a 1980 Harmonic Balancer? L48 with auto. Group Number 0.659 Part Number 458653.

No, it's not. Balancer GM #458653 was never used on ANY Corvette. Neither were any of its predecessive or supercessive part numbers. GM #458653 was used on some 305 cid engines during the later 70s to mid 80s period. These were installed in other Chevrolet passenger cars and some light trucks. For Corvettes, though, even the 305 cid engine used in 1980 for California-only did not use the 458653 balancer.
For 1980, Corvettes with the LG-4 (i.e. the California-only 305) and L-48 used balancer GM #6272221. Currently, this balancer is available under GM #12551537 and is identical in configuration to the 6272221.
The difference between the 6272221 and the 458653 (which, incidentally, is currently known as GM #12551948)is thickness of the balancer ring. The 6272221 is about 1" thick and the 458653 is about 2" thick. Both balancers are about 6-1/2" OD.In Appreciation of John Hinckley -

I have found some information which indicates that the GM #458653 balancer may have been used on 1977 Corvettes with L-48. I think that's inaccurate, but it's a possibility. It would be interesting to hear from someone with a 1977 L-48 that's reasonably sure that their balancer is original. A glance at the balancer is all that it will take-----is it about 1" wide or is it about 2" wide?In Appreciation of John HinckleyComment
