    Alternator on a straight axle

My 60 vette has an Alternator installed on the drivers side of engine. My question is what kind of bracket setup can be used to secure the alternator to the engine. My exhaust manifold has some make shift bracket on it along with a brace bolted to the front of my intake manifold. Has anyone used one of the mid year configurations to secure an alternator. I would like to clean up the engine bay with a more safer type of bracket system. I need a brace that can feed through the slot on front motor mount and attach to the block or water pump?? The car has a 350 installed with no mounting holes in the heads.

Believe it or not, Paragon actually refused to sell me a part about a year ago because it was not "correct" for my car.

I still buy from them occasionally, but I thought this was very strange.

Mr. Gasket sells a two-piece adjustable chrome bracket for the exact purpose (around $20). They also offer the adjusting top arm. Perhaps this similar to the pieces you are refering that you'd like to replace. But if not, it is a good solution and will even work with headers.

You might be able to adopt a late model alternator bracket but as you say the engine mounts will likely get in your way. Why not buy a used one from a junkyard or ebay and experiment?
